This project investigates how non-linear* graphic narratives* can be used to help explore the potential of readers* as creators* in graphic narratives.
non-linear* not sequential or straightforward.
graphic narratives* narrative created by arranging images, panels, frames.
readers* passive, recipient.
creators* proactive, information-builder.
Exploring how to create narrative and interactive potential through the free juxtaposition of physical forms and images, and how to read and create non-linear graphic narratives through layouts and material, this project regards the reader's role as a potential narrator in storytelling. Through different physical forms, challenging the limitations of the linear layout of a graphic narrative, and dominant, linear reading habits (left-to-right, top-to-bottom), the project explores the reader's understanding and experience, whilst encouraging them to perceive and create narratives in a more dynamic and interactive way.

⬆️Part 1- Parallel Montage

This part aims to challenge traditional linear graphic narrative conventions, such as sequential storytelling, panels of images in a fixed order, one timeline, text bubbles for speech and descriptive text, through iterations of these different forms.

Read, Create, Non-linear explores how to read and create story through the non-linear layout formats. This project challenges the limitations of the linear layout and material of graphic narratives and linear reading habits on the reader's understanding and experience, encouraging the reader to read and create story content using a non-linear reading style to roam through the full panel with dynamic understanding.
